Pay Off Bills Quickly
Credit card companies enjoy giving you high credit limits on your credit card so you can potentially spend thousands of dollars you don't actually have. They will then require you to make monthly payments until the entire debt is accounted for. As we all know, this can take years to do if you don’t understand exactly what you are paying and why. Here are some helpful tips to pay off your debt quickly.
These credit card companies make their money by charging you interest. If you pay your entire balance on time each month, no interest is charged. However, when you only pay the minimum or less than the entire balance, the credit card company has the right to charge you interest on what you don’t pay. The faster you pay the debt, the less interest they will charge you.
Pay more than the minimum amount they ask you for. If your debt is in the thousands and you only pay the minimum, it will take years to pay it off because of all the interest they are charging you. Try to at least double the minimum. For example, if your minimum is $150, pay $300 each month. This will start to eliminate your debt much quicker.
Make more than one payment a month. Most people only make one payment a month and think that is enough. It will definitely satisfy your credit card company because they can charge you more next month. If you make a payment every week or even every two weeks, your debt will be paid off between two and four times faster than if you only make a payment once a month. Only do this if you are financially able to do so. You want to make sure you are still able to live comfortably.
Take advantage of online banking services. Each credit card company allows you to have an online account to make your payments. This helps tremendously with organization, especially if you have multiple credit cards. Sending payments by check takes much longer and requires more paperwork for both you and the credit card company. It is also much easier to forget to make a payment or not get it to them on time. If you make your payments online, you can schedule payments to come out of your bank account during any day of the month you want and you can set up multiple payments.
Inform your credit card company if you are temporarily unable to make a payment. Many of them are very understanding and will take away a late fee if you inform them that you will be missing your next payment. The easiest way to get into even more debt is to miss payments. Not only will you be charged more for interest, but you will be charged late fees on top of that. If you miss more than three payments, it could go to a collection agency.
Credit card debt may seem impossible to pay off, but with some careful planning, it can be done much quicker than you think. Make sure you are making payments on time, are paying more than the monthly minimum, and are letting your credit card company know when you can’t pay.
