Santa Monica is another famous beach area in the Los Angeles area that is popular for its skateboarding and surfing community. In the skateboarding community, Santa Monica and parts of Venice beach are called "Dogtown." The skateboarding community boasts of Santa Monica as the Mecca for surfing and other extreme sports. Santa Monica is located north of Venice Beach and south of Brentwood. The beachfront homes and apartments located on Santa Monica beaches are also very expensive, ranging up to and over 30 million dollars.

Long Beach offers more affordable homes meant for the average family. Long Beach is south of downtown Los Angles and is full of attractions and has plenty of waterfront property. Homes in Long Beach can be cheaper than those in Santa Monica or Venice, since the beach is not as nice and it is further away from the center of Los Angeles. However, for a good price a family can purchase a home on or within a few blocks of the water for a reasonable price. Waterfront living is great, and no where has more beautiful views of the ocean than the Los Angeles area.
